National Lampoon Presents: Endless Bummer

Tagline for the flic: "NO Pants, NO Shoes, NO Problem!" Hmm...heard that with slight variation somewhere before? That reference, however, comes from a much funnier movie with the young Sean Penn. Endless Bummer had some actual surfing in the beginning, and it was pretty good. In a nutshell, this is a stupid movie about a "journey" with friends to find a stolen surfboard. The guy rides a sweet barrel and after pulling out kicks his board over the lip. It soars in the air and splashes in the water. Next scene: mystified surfer turns head back and forth trying to locate green and yellow board that has only been missing for like two seconds. It is gone though. The rest of the movie is a sort of extended bonding moment for 3 guys and 2 girls from Ventura, who go to the Valley to retrieve the board and punish the thief--a guy who wears pants, which means he lives in the Valley--awesome!

The bummer about this flic was the absence of references to The Endless Summer. There were bad puns or attempts to parody the classic, except for the title. That was a bummer. It could have been really funny if the played with the campiness of Bruce Brown's jokes and narrating. Lastly, the IMDB user rating is 9.4 out of 10 for Endless Bummer (based on 35 votes). I couldn't believe it!
